RIGA: European Region of Gastronomy 2017

The program of events for the European Region of Gastronomy 2017 involves the top chefs from the finest restaurants as well as local farmsteads, proprietors and persons affiliated with the arts and entertainment. As for Latvian cuisine to be presented, it's all about going back to the roots.

To quote Dzintars Kristovs, the head chef at Valmiermuiza’s Embassy who has been nominated as the Ambassador of the European Region of Gastronomy, “technology and cooking is so advanced that I feel the urge to go back to the roots. The concept devised by Riga-Gauja Region is a distinct reflection of this – products and ingredients that our people have gathered, savored, featured in meals for hundreds of years – straight from our forests, meadows, streams and lakes.”

Since the European Region of Gastronomy is the shared repsonsibility (and indeed pride!) of the city of Riga and the Gauja region, it also means an exciting opportunity to combine the tastes of modern fusion cuisine and original Latvian meals, taking you to an exciting gastronomic journey.

For all foodies and gastronomy enthusiasts, Latvia should definitely be on the list of preferrred destinations in 2017.
